EASTSIDE BLOSSOMS FORT WORTH BEAUTIFICATION PROJECT
Early Saturday morning, December 9th, 2017; while others were sleeping all snug in their beds, 20 Burlington Northern Railroad employees led by Nathan Joe Loftis and 7 BBVA Compass Bank employees were volunteering their time and energy to beautify Gateway Park, East First Street and Gateway Park. When they were through 104 new Redbud Trees had been planted. That is the biggest one day total to date.
BNSF and BBVA Compass have participated in numerous plantings to beautify our City. BNSF funded 40 Redbuds and supplied 60 volunteers to plant the Riverside entry to Gateway Park. Those trees were planted in cooperation with the Trees for Texas Foundation, The Arbor Day Foundation, the City of Fort Worth Park Department and East Fort Worth, Inc’s. Eastside Blossoms Committee.
The tree ordering, delivery, planting and coordination with the City of Fort Worth Park Department is done by Eastside Blossoms, Paul Kerpoe and with the help of our Volunteer Coordinator, Angela Goodwin.
As of December 11, 2017 Eastside Blossoms has been responsible for the planting of 700 blossoming trees. We expect to plant 1,000 by our April 28,th Eastside Blossoms Gala. That will place us halfway to our original goal of 2,000. However, you will soon be hearing about a plan to vastly expand the goal and planting target area.
You can be a part of this effort to beautify the City of Fort Worth. We need cash donations, tree donations, volunteer planters, and fund raisers. We are particularly in need of a volunteer to take over the responsibilities of Paul Kerpoe as he is planning to relinquish his position in late February.
Thanks to all the volunteers that helped on the Eastside Blossoms project this year. ESB Committee wishes everyone a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
